Ernie G is an artist and songwriter from Sudbury Ont. with a focus on creating heartfelt and personal songs. His music blurs the lines between a wide range of influences and genre definitions.
Ernie was born in Sudbury, Ontario. Ever since she was only a young teenager, he had a natural gift for music. He started playing guitar at the young age of 12. Soon after, he joined several local bands, up until he moved to Toronto in his 20s. As one of Canada's major music cities, Toronto is home to many exciting venues and artistic hubs. It was a perfect place for Ernie to take his music to the next level. He spent several years honing his craft and performing at some fantastic local bars. Down the line, he formed a band named Manteye. Along with Augy, his brother, and fellow musician Mark Manthei. The group took off almost right away. Their song "Seven Minutes to Midnight" became a successful track, receiving critical praise. Despite that, Augy and Ernie decided to drop the project after a few years to start a new band: Big Blue Bus. This group went on to release a fantastic album titled Art's Jukebox. The record also features "Waiting For More," which became a Top 40 hit, climbing the local charts. The experience with the new band was gratifying, but Ernie was eager to pursue a solo career. He had the opportunity to travel and tour extensively. His music didn't only bring him on the road through Canada, but it also gave him the amazing opportunity to travel throughout Europe. There, he made a great impression on an entirely new audience, performing his beautiful and personal songs. After some years of touring, Ernie became a dad. He decided to take a break to spend time raising his daughter and focus on other interests. However, he couldn't stay away from playing and writing music! He felt that calling once again and had to follow his creative muse. Ernie teamed up with record producer Greg Kavanagh, as well as a fantastic set of musicians. These include drummer Gary Craig and bass player John Dymond, not to mention back-up vocalist Suzie Vinnick. The fruitful sessions led to a stunning brand new EP, "On My Way." This release is home to five memorable songs, straight from the heart and performed with passion and sentiment. This record feels like a compelling introduction to the sound and feel of this talented artist. The creative possibilities are endless, given the fantastic range of musical influences that make the release so special.
